Therefore, I have compiled some guidelines (as of 1998) on what some of the major breed registries are requiring of us. Please remember these are meant only as guidelines and you should contact your individual association for complete and accurate rules which you will need to follow. Stallion Management Services/Chris Michelson may not be held responsible for any penalties you acquire for not contacting your respective association and following their rules before you ship semen.
SHIPPING PERMITS - SHIPPING PERMITS - usually issued for the stallion on an annual, ownership, or lifetime basis. Costs range from $0 to $350, with penalties up to $1,000 for shipping without one.
SHIPPING CERTIFICATES SHIPPING CERTIFICATES normally sent with each shipment signed by owners/veterinarians/ technicians depending on the criteria of the registry.
American Morgan Horse Assoc.
Semen Transport Permit - $100 (valid until
ownership or lease status changes). Photocopy should be sent with each shipment.
Late Permit fee - $200
Additional fee to register foal - $10
American Paint Horse Assoc.
Annual Cooled Transported Semen Permit -
$100
Fine for shipping without permit - $500
Mare must be inseminated within 72 hours of collection
Collection-Insemination Certificate no charge (needed with each shipment)
American Quarter Horse Assoc.
Notify AQHA annually that you will be
shipping no charge
Collection/Insemination Certificate no charge (needed with each shipment)
Semen must be inseminated within 72 hours of collection.

Transported Semen Stallion Permit - $100

Fine for shipping without permit - $500
Cooled Semen Transportation Certificate no charge (needed with each
shipment)
Arabian Horse Registry of America
Transported/Stored Semen Permit - $350
(valid until Stallion ownership changes or stallion is exported)
Fine for shipping without permit - $1,000
Transported/Stored Semen Service Certificate - $35 each (needed before foal is
registered)
International Arabian Horse Assoc.
Transport of Semen Permit Mares $150
/ Stallions $100 (includes cost of blood typing if needed permit valid for life of
the horse)
Late fee - $250 each
In most of the above instances blood typing/parentage verification will be necessary before the foal can be registered.
